I got married--good year, in that respect...saw the DEAD early (NY run of 79-80) and late (80-81), and that was it (those were the years that they settled into the Oak Col runs after Winterland shut down). Thus, I missed the Warfield shows of 80/81 (acoustic stuff). It was also the beginning of the end for me & the DEAD (I only saw them a time or two in 81 & one last time in 82), though this clearly is of no general interest. I do agree w strat that the early Brent yrs were such that we all thought "hmmm, not too bad, doobie dead look aside, his playing is not in your face, and he isn't singing much, so, lets give it shot" (we were REALLY glad Donna was gone, and we thought Keith had become less and less important...almost like Pig had, though we didn't know why--ie, the drug explanation wasn't widely circulating though it seems obvious now looking back).

I think that for those of us that came to dislike Brent, it was really his last five yrs rather than the first five, and I'd left by then...thus, I only heard about him starting to sing more and play more up front, etc., etc.

So, that's my vague recollection of the yr and the next few, which I doubt does you any good whatsoever.

I also see NO connection between 1980 and the events of the past week, but I imagine some numbskull could make a case for cause and effect...(Ahem; just saying--I agree with elb!?).

Got nothing much of substance to say about 1980, but I will say that I am also in agreement with Elb - and more than that I admire the economy of his comment in using two letters where I would have been inclined to use seven.

or, you could have used the common (capitalized) abbreviation and kept your letter useage to Elb's minimum standard, thereby standing on-par with that worthy
